Featured Product Information

 Cellulose:

Cellulose is a naturally superior material for insulation.  The long, inter-locking fibers of recycled newsprint resist settling and create an exceptional thermal barrier.  Cellulose insulation has a long and rich history in the construction industry, going back to the 1930's.  And, despite its established, time-proven status, cellulose has improved in quality and sophistication over time, and it now provides exceptional resistance to fire, moisture, mold, and vermin.  No other insulation can claim these benefits and also provide the superior thermal and sound insulation that comes naturally to cellulose.

Benefits of Cellulose:

The benefits of cellulose insulation over other types of insulation are striking. Cellulose has an R-value of 3.8 per inch vs. 2.2 per inch for regular fiberglass batts. The density of cellulose also makes it a superior sound barrier - achieving STC ratings as high as 45 in a standard 2x4 wall.

Our method of spraying or injecting cellulose into cavities at high densities ensures that it achieves a tight air barrier, without the voids or gaps of conventional insulation. This air barrier also blocks the flow of moisture, since airflow accounts for 98% of moisture transfer, ensuring your home will be free of rot, mold, and condensation-related problems.

The cellulose fibers are impregnated with naturally occurring
fire retardant borates.  This makes cellulose insulation not only safer than fiberglass and foam, but also safer than almost any other material in the building.  Cellulose insulation provides a 1-hour, 2x4 load-bearing firewall when a single layer of 1/2 inch type X Gypsum is used on each side of the wall assembly.  And our NuWool Wallseal is one of the only insulations on the market treated to prevent mold.  Few other insulations can make this claim, and only cellulose insulation provides all these benefits and performance in one package.

Fiberglass Batts:

Fiberglass insulation has been manufactured since 1897. It has been used in households since the 1930s and has been in particularly heavy use since the oil shortage in the 1970s dramatically increased heating fuel prices. Fiberglass insulation is sold in pre-cut strips called batts that fit between standard wall, floor or ceiling framing members, in continuous rolls called blankets and as loose fill to be blown into attics.

Fiberglass insulation is composed of silica, sand and limestone along with binders, fire retardants, re-cycled glass, and sometimes dyes. The components are melted, blown and then spun into glass fibers. These fine strands of glass are made into fluffy layers that trap warm air as it expands.

Benefits of Fiberglass Batts:

Fiberglass insulation has several advantages. It is inexpensive as fiberglass is made from silica sand, an abundant resource. Fiberglass insulation does not burn or shrink. Fiberglass insulation also has good acoustic properties for sound absorption. In addition, bugs do not like it so it does not have to be chemically treated like cotton or wool insulation although mineral oil and silicone are common additions to control dust.

Fiberglass insulation has some environmental benefits as well. The US Environmental Protection Agency requires all new fiberglass insulation to incorporate 20 percent recycled glass.

Closed Cell Foam:

Permax Foam:

There is no better home insulating material that can seal your home from air and moisture intrusion, save on costly utility bills, strengthen your home, and protect your family¡Ùs health from dangerous mold than spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation

Benefits of Closed Cell Foam:

Closed Cell Foam insulation saves on energy costs and lowers utility bills. It has an r-value of 6.8 per inch. That is almost twice the the r-value when compared to traditional batt fiberglass. At two inches or more, it is an effective vapor retarder. SPF insulation can be used to seal the entire ¡†building envelope¡Ö of your home to prevent air and moisture infiltration. The US Department of Energy (DOE) studies show that 40% of your home¡Ùs energy is lost due to air infiltration. Air will infiltrate the home in the form of drafts through walls sockets, windows and doorways. To find out more about the building envelope and preventing air leaks.
